Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Base Camp?
Compare two famous Nepal trek objectives through time, approach, overnight planning and flexibility—not just the base-camp name.
Compare the trip you would take
Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp are different journeys. Choosing between them starts with two actual itineraries, your available days and the kind of walking experience you want. Neither name tells you the pace, overnight arrangement or support included in a quotation.
Nepal Tourism Board describes the Everest Base Camp trek from Lukla and back as a roughly two-week journey. It identifies Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 metres. Those facts are orientation points: the first is not your whole international holiday, and the second is not a complete overnight altitude profile. NTB Everest guide, NTB route overview.
Put the two itineraries side by side
| Decision | Everest Base Camp | Annapurna Base Camp |
|---|---|---|
| Time | Separate the Lukla trek from the approach, departure and contingency days. | Confirm the starting point and whether other villages or viewpoints are included. |
| Approach | Ask how the Lukla travel is organized and what happens if it changes. | Ask how road transfers connect with the walking itinerary. |
| Overnight plan | Request every sleeping stop and the planned acclimatization time. | Request every sleeping stop and how the ascent is distributed. |
| Optional additions | Keep extra viewpoints and extensions separate from the base itinerary. | Keep Poon Hill or other combinations separate when comparing duration. |
| Flexibility | Understand the alternative if transport or the trek changes. | Understand the alternative if access or upper-route conditions change. |
Do not use scenery as the only deciding factor
A photograph cannot tell you whether you will enjoy the day-to-day trip. Think about repeated walking days, accommodation, the pace of a group and how much uncertainty you are comfortable managing. Discuss your recent walking experience honestly with the operator.
Ask the same questions about both quotations. A lower price with a different endpoint, fewer included meals or less travel flexibility is not a like-for-like comparison.
A third option is a valid answer
If neither itinerary fits your available time or preparation, keep looking. The purpose of a comparison is to help you decide, not to push you toward one of two famous names. Poon Hill or a Dhampus and Australian Camp walk can be smaller trip shapes to investigate.
