A famous destination with a substantial planning commitment
Everest Base Camp can be an aspiration without needing to be your first trek. Begin by deciding whether the time, preparation and itinerary fit the trip you actually want.
The Nepal Tourism Board describes a roughly two-week trek starting and finishing at Lukla, with time around Namche for acclimatization. Treat that as broad orientation, not a complete itinerary or a promise about flight schedules.
Compare versions carefully
A walking return, a helicopter-return package and an itinerary that adds other valleys or passes are different products. Ask exactly what is included and what is optional. An agency should be able to explain the overnight sequence and how it responds when a traveler cannot continue as planned.
Allow for the travel needed to reach and leave the trail. Ask what happens to accommodation, onward flights and costs if transport is disrupted.
What to ask before committing
Discuss experience requirements, preparation, luggage arrangements, communications, emergency procedures and the written terms for changes. Check the terms of any insurance with its issuer for your exact activities and itinerary; a general “adventure cover” label is not enough detail.
Read the altitude guidance linked from our difficulty page and seek appropriate individual medical advice where needed. A route profile cannot tell you how your body will respond.
