Look at the whole approach, not just the destination

Annapurna Base Camp is listed at 4,130 metres by the Nepal Tourism Board. The route to that destination can vary: adding other places to the journey changes the walking, the number of days and the practical arrangements.

If this would be your first Nepal trek, compare the complete itinerary with the walking experience you already have. Ask how many consecutive walking days it contains and where there is flexibility in the plan.

Questions before booking

Does the advertised duration include travel from your arrival city? Where do you sleep? Which days contain the most ascent or descent? What weather or trail conditions could cause a change, and what alternative would the operator use?

An itinerary with more room for delays and rest may serve your holiday better than one built around the minimum number of days.

Pack for the overnight plan

Check bedding and warm-layer requirements against the actual accommodation and season. Confirm how your main bag is transported, what you carry during the day, and what the operator supplies. A porter arrangement changes how you divide your equipment, not whether you need ready access to essentials.
