A short-trek candidate worth understanding properly

Poon Hill is a useful starting point when researching a first multi-day Nepal trek. Its viewpoint is listed at 3,210 metres by the Nepal Tourism Board. That number describes the viewpoint; it does not tell you where you will sleep or how much climbing your itinerary contains.

Do not choose by the word “easy”

Ask your agency to show the longest walking day, repeated climbs and descents, and the options for a slower pace. A route can be accessible to many first-time trekkers without being effortless.

The name “Poon Hill trek” covers different starts, finishes and combinations. Compare the same scope when looking at packages: a trip that includes transfers and additional villages is not directly comparable with one that counts only the core walking days.

What should be in your plan?

Check the early-start arrangements if a sunrise visit is included, your overnight stops, expected bedding, meal arrangements and how the itinerary changes if conditions are unsuitable. Keep optional viewpoints separate from the essential route.

Use the base packing checklist and add what your reviewed itinerary and forecast require. Before accepting a quotation, obtain the exact permit and guide arrangements in writing.
