Nepal trekking permits and guides: where to check
Find the official starting points for guide and permit requirements, and learn what to request for your exact Nepal trekking itinerary.
Check the exact route before making arrangements
Permit and guide requirements are route-specific and can change. Nepal Tourism Board's current TIMS page describes a licensed-guide and agency-issued TIMS requirement for listed routes under the revised provision effective 31 March 2023. Its list includes routes in the Everest, Langtang and Annapurna regions. Read the current official page rather than relying on a general claim that all Nepal trekking follows one rule. This article is a research checklist, not a permit determination for your trip. Give the operator your actual start, finish, overnight stops, optional excursions and nationality when requesting the arrangements.
Keep different documents separate
A TIMS card, park or conservation-area entry, and a restricted-area permit are different questions. Ask which apply to the exact itinerary and which issuing authority is responsible. Do not assume that one document covers every entry requirement.
| Question | What a useful answer contains |
|---|---|
| Which route are we taking? | Named start, finish, overnight stops and extensions |
| Which documents apply? | Each required document and issuing authority |
| Who arranges them? | The responsible agency or office and the timing |
| What is included in the quotation? | Separate fees and service charges, if applicable |
| What must I provide? | The required information through an appropriate secure process |
| What if the itinerary changes? | Whether documents or permissions must be amended |
Start with primary sources
Use the Nepal Tourism Board TIMS page for the published route list and guide provision. For protected-area and restricted-area requirements, follow the relevant authority's current guidance and have the agency identify the source it is using.
If two sources conflict, resolve the difference before paying for arrangements. Ask for a written explanation tied to the current route and authority. Older destination descriptions can remain useful for geography while containing outdated practical rules.
What TrekDestination needs from you
Our initial agency enquiry form does not need your passport, permit application or identity documents. Use it for general business introductions only. Travelers should arrange required documentation with the responsible provider through the appropriate channel.
Record the date you checked each requirement and recheck when finalizing the trip. Then return to the route directory and agency checklist to connect the paperwork to the actual journey.
